Guide - printing your printables

Hi, welcome to Two Blue Mountains!

When we tell people that we make printable art, they often look at us with surprise. They ask what it is and what they can do with it.

So we thought it would be helpful to make a quick guide to clarify things and help you print our printables and achieve beautiful art prints.

Don’t worry, you only need to know a few things in order to get lovely prints all the time.

If you have any further questions on how to print your printables, do not hesitate to contact us and we will do our best to help you achieve beautiful results with your artworks.

So, what is a printable art work?
Simply put, a printable art work is an art print or photography print supplied as a file to download and print out yourself. On your home computer, or by a local or online print shop.

Easy accessible, affordable and you can print them out yourself! We love using printables to update our home decor with beautiful new and seasonal designs.
You can print them in any size you want. They fit into all standard frames and all IKEA frames. It's super fun and inexpensive to buy frames, pop the prints in, and ... voilà, your artwork is ready!

If you want larger size prints, you can save the download on an external hard drive and take it to a local print shop. They have all the knowledge and you can often choose between different types of paper.

It is also possible to upload the download to an online print shop. They also give the opportunity to make large prints on beautiful paper.

How do I download my printables in your web shop?
Downloading is quite easy. We recommend downloading and saving the files to a computer. This is better and faster than with a mobile phone or tablet.

After you have made your payment, you will be taken to our order confirmation page, which contains a link where you can download the files.

You will also receive an email inviting you to download your newly purchased artworks.

You will receive seven files. Each file is the artwork in a different size and aspect ratio. This gives you the opportunity to print the artwork in any size you wish.

You will receive the seven files in a compressed Zip file.

If you have not received the email, please check your spam/junk folder.

What is a Zip file and how do I open it?
A ZIP file is a collection of one or more files, which are compressed into a single file for easy transportation and compression.

The easiest way to open a ZIP file is to double-click on it and let your computer show you the folders and files contained inside.

What is an aspect ratio?
Aspect Ratio describes the relationship between the height and width of an image. For example, when an image has a width of 10 inches and a height of 15 inches, its aspect ratio is 2:3.

Our printables come in aspect ratios that match the most popular standard frame sizes and all IKEA frames.

You will also receive two printables with the measurements 11 x 14 inches (a popular frame size) and 8.5 x 11 inches (the size of the paper in your home printer, common in the USA, Canada and Mexico).

And of course also in A4 size, the size of the paper in your home printer in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and most other countries.

All you need to do is select the correct one to fit your frame.

The resolution of your printables
All our printables have a resolution of 300 PPI, for creating high-quality, crisp images.

Print at home
This is fun, inexpensive and the fastest method!

All our printables can be printed on A4 paper or US letter size paper (8.5 x 11 inches). US letter size paper is common in the USA, Canada and Mexico while A4 paper is used in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and most other countries.

These are the sizes that any home printer can print.

You can print them on your inkjet printer or laser printer. We prefer inkjet printing because the result is just that little bit nicer.

What paper should I use?
You can use normal printer paper, but choose the slightly thicker version. Standard copy paper is generally quite thin, so choosing a slightly thicker copy paper will ensure a good quality printed image that doesn’t leach through to the other side.

And for an even better result, you can opt for photo paper. We prefer matte photo paper, because then you are less bothered by reflection. But sometimes glossy photo paper also gives a really nice result.

Also don't forget to set your printer settings to the correct type of paper. This is especially important if you want to use thicker paper and to prevent the paper from getting jammed in the printer.

We recommend that you make a test print, first on cheaper paper, and then possibly on the more expensive photo paper.

Printer Settings
Printer: Choose the correct printer

Paper Size: Choose 8.5x11 inches or A4
Quality: High Quality
Paper Type: Select the correct paper type to get the best quality print

Always choose the option to print at 100% to keep the true size when selecting the print settings in the print dialogue box. All our printables come in the correct size, so you don’t have to change anything.

Where to have your printables printed?
You can take the files on a USB flash drive to a local print shop and talk to someone who knows all about printing. You can submit your wishes, choose the size you want and the type of paper on which your artwork will be printed.

They are prepared to deal with any size paper you are looking for, and in various textures and weights.

This gives you the opportunity to print a larger print with a beautiful professional result.

Most professional print shops will know best what paper is suitable for your artwork. Make sure to choose a heavy, high-quality paper. Paper quality is important for the best possible result!

Online printing services
There are many online printing services, many of which can offer a quick and high quality print of your printable that is shipped directly to you.

All you need to do is upload the correct file to the site of the online printing service. Here too, you have the option of choosing a print with larger dimensions on a beautiful and sturdy paper (photo paper or Fine Art paper).

We hope these tips are helpful to you. If you have any other questions on printing our printables, you can email us here at carmen@twobluemountains.com.
